EFT Tapping for Stress: Release the Pressure You’re Carrying

Stress can sneak up on you.

At first, you’re simply handling what needs to be handled. You answer the emails, make the decisions, take care of other people, keep up with responsibilities, deal with unexpected problems, and move on to the next thing.

Then one day you realize your shoulders are practically touching your ears. Your jaw is tight. Your mind is busy. You’re more irritable than usual. You can’t fully relax even when you finally have time to yourself.

You’ve been carrying more pressure than you realized.

Stress is a natural response to challenging or demanding situations. In small doses, it can help us respond and take action. But when we stay in that heightened state for too long, it can begin to feel as though we’re always bracing for the next thing.

EFT Tapping offers a simple way to pause, acknowledge the pressure you’re carrying, and give your mind and body an opportunity to soften.

When Everything Feels Like Too Much

Stress isn’t always caused by one major event. Often, it’s an accumulation of little things.

A busy schedule. Money concerns. Work responsibilities. Family needs. An uncomfortable conversation. Too much information. Not enough rest. A long list of things you haven’t gotten to yet.

Individually, you may be able to handle each one. Together, they can create the feeling of I have too much on my plate. And sometimes we add another layer by telling ourselves we should be handling it better.

I shouldn’t be this stressed.

Other people have more going on than I do.

I just need to get through this week.

But dismissing what you’re feeling doesn’t make the stress disappear. Sometimes what you need most is simply an opportunity to acknowledge: This is a lot right now.

That’s a wonderful place to begin tapping.

How EFT Tapping Can Help With Stress

EFT, or Emotional Freedom Techniques, combines gentle tapping on acupressure points with focused attention on what you’re thinking and feeling.

Instead of trying to immediately become calm, you begin by acknowledging what is actually happening.

You might tap on feeling overwhelmed, having too much to do, being tired of holding everything together, or feeling responsible for everyone around you.

You can also tap on the physical sensations associated with stress: tight shoulders, tension in your chest, a clenched jaw, a nervous stomach, or that general feeling of being wound too tightly.

The intention isn’t to pretend your responsibilities don’t exist. It’s to release some of the internal pressure surrounding them so you can meet your life from a more centered place.

EFT Tapping Script for Stress

Before beginning, notice what feels stressful right now. You might even imagine everything you’re carrying piled into an invisible backpack.

How heavy does it feel?

Rate your current stress from 0 to 10, with 10 representing very high stress.

Then take a comfortable breath and begin tapping on the Karate Chop point.

Setup: Acknowledging the Pressure

Karate Chop: Even though I’m carrying so much stress right now, and it feels like there’s always something else that needs my attention, I acknowledge how overwhelmed I feel.

Karate Chop: Even though I’ve been trying to hold everything together, and part of me feels like I can’t let anything drop, I’m willing to give myself a little space to breathe.

Karate Chop: Even though my mind and body have been carrying all of this pressure, I acknowledge everything I’ve been dealing with, and I’m open to releasing some of this stress now.

Take a slow breath.

Round 1: All This Stress

Eyebrow: I’ve been carrying so much.

Side of Eye: There’s always something that needs to be done.

Under Eye: So many things competing for my attention.

Under Nose: I feel pulled in too many directions.

Chin: I’ve been trying to keep up with everything.

Collarbone: My body is holding all this tension.

Under Arm: I’m tired of feeling so stressed.

Top of Head: It all feels like too much right now.

Pause and breathe.

Round 2: The Pressure to Hold Everything Together

Eyebrow: I feel like I have to keep everything together.

Side of Eye: I have to remember everything.

Under Eye: Take care of everything.

Under Nose: Stay on top of everything.

Chin: And somehow keep going.

Collarbone: That’s a lot of pressure to carry.

Under Arm: No wonder I’ve been feeling stressed.

Top of Head: I acknowledge how much I’ve been carrying.

Take another slow breath.

Round 3: Releasing Some of the Weight

Eyebrow: Maybe I don’t have to carry everything at once.

Side of Eye: Maybe some things can wait.

Under Eye: Maybe everything isn’t equally urgent.

Under Nose: I’m willing to release some of this pressure.

Chin: I don’t have to solve everything right now.

Collarbone: I’m allowing my shoulders to soften.

Under Arm: I’m allowing my body to release some of this tension.

Top of Head: I’m letting some of this weight go.

Pause and notice what you feel.

Round 4: Creating Space to Breathe

Eyebrow: I can take this one moment at a time.

Side of Eye: One decision at a time.

Under Eye: One task at a time.

Under Nose: I don’t have to do everything at once.

Chin: I give myself permission to slow down.

Collarbone: I give myself permission to breathe.

Under Arm: I can create space between me and all these demands.

Top of Head: I am allowing more ease into this moment.

Take a comfortable breath.

Round 5: Aligning With Ease and Support

Eyebrow: I am aligning with a calmer way of moving through my day.

Side of Eye: I am releasing the belief that everything depends on me.

Under Eye: I am allowing myself to feel supported.

Under Nose: I can trust myself to handle what truly needs my attention.

Chin: I am choosing ease over unnecessary pressure.

Collarbone: I am creating more space for peace in my body.

Under Arm: I am aligning with balance, clarity, and calm.

Top of Head: I can move through my life without carrying everything at once.

Take one final slow breath.

What Are You Ready to Put Down?

Check your stress level again.

Maybe it dropped several points. Maybe your shoulders feel a little looser or your breathing feels deeper. Or perhaps you suddenly realized that one particular situation is responsible for most of the pressure you’ve been feeling.

That awareness can become your next tapping focus.

Instead of tapping generally on stress, you could tap on the deadline at work, the conversation I need to have, worrying about money, or feeling responsible for everyone else.

The more specific you become, the more opportunity you have to explore what is really underneath the stress.

And sometimes tapping reveals something else entirely: perfectionism, difficulty saying no, fear of disappointing people, or the belief that resting means you aren’t doing enough.

Those are wonderful things to tap on too.

You Were Never Meant to Carry Everything at Once

There will always be things to do. There will always be changing circumstances, unexpected situations, responsibilities, and days when life feels fuller than you would prefer.

The intention isn’t to create a life in which nothing ever feels stressful. It’s to notice when you’ve begun carrying more than you need to.

You can pause before you reach the breaking point. You can acknowledge that something feels like too much. You can put down what isn’t yours, reconsider what is truly urgent, ask for support when you need it, and give yourself permission to rest.

And when you notice that familiar pressure building again, you can tap. You don’t have to wait until everything around you becomes peaceful before you create a little more peace within yourself.
